CANCER CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE AT GRADY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority

Location: Atanta, Georgia
Completed: November 2002
Budget: $26,000,000
Square Footage: 70,000 SF
Architect: Howell, Rusk, Dodson
Received 2002 Award of Excellence from ABC of Georgia for Hospital Facilities $15-$25M

The project consisted of the demolition and build back of the ninth and tenth floors, within the active 14-story, central urban teaching hospital campus.

Construction included:

  • 70,000 SF of renovated space
  • The addition of ten laboratories with fume hoods
  • The installation of a state-of-the-art PET/CT scanner on the tenth floor
  • The design and installation of a new Internet Technology system including provisions
for tele-medicine, tele-conferencing and network image management systems
  • The addition of a new express elevator within the existing floor plate

Construction proceeded as a "Fast Track"/'Design/Build' fashion allowing the continued full function of the hospital while the renovations were being completed. The entire project, including design, was scheduled to take eleven months. The expedited schedule was critical so that the existing hospital operations were not interrupted and the project's impact was minimized.
