Georgia World Congress Center Authority

Location: Atlanta, Georgia

PHASE I
Completed: July 1996
Budget: $28,000,000

PHASE II
Completed: 1998
Budget: $15,000,000

Architect: EDAW

This 21-acre site, formerly an abandoned inner city ghetto, became center stage during the 1996 Olympic Games featuring entertainment and exhibits from all over the world. Corporate sponsors, thousands of world-wide media staff, and millions of people, made the park a part of their lives as they experienced world class entertainment and exhibits from all over the world.

Post the Olympic Games, Phase II of the initiative involved renovating the development/park to support year round use by various organizations throughout the City of Atlanta and the region. The park features lasting legacies from the games such as the Olympic Rings fountain and the towers, as well as a revamped amphitheater, concession and retail facilities. The park is now host to music/art festivals, seasonal events, and fundraising events of large proportion.
