Opening Doors for the Next Generation: H. J. Russell & Company Hosts Bring Your Kids to Work Day

Bring Your Kids to Work Day

At H. J. Russell & Company, building has always meant more than construction. It means building communities, building opportunities, and building a legacy that continues to inspire future generations.

That spirit came to life during Bring Your Kids to Work Day, a special event designed to welcome the children of Russell employees into the workplace and give them a firsthand look at who we are, what we do, and the impact our work makes every day.

This was not just another day at the office. It was an opportunity to open our doors to the next generation of leaders, innovators, builders, and changemakers.

A Day Rooted in Legacy

For H. J. Russell & Company, the day carried a deeper meaning. Students had the opportunity to connect with the history and legacy of a Black-owned enterprise that has helped shape communities, create opportunities, and break barriers for generations.

Through the Russell Legacy presentation and tour, participants learned more about the company’s story, its impact, and the values that continue to guide the organization today. It was a chance for young people to see what excellence looks like up close and to understand that the work being done today is part of something much bigger.

Learning Through Experience

The event was designed to be fun, engaging, and educational for children ages 8 to 18. Throughout the day, students were introduced to the many departments and career paths that help move the company forward.

They heard from teams across the organization, including Marketing, Legal, Accounting, Construction, Concessions, Program Management, Information Technology, Human Resources, Russell New Urban, and Executive Leadership. Each department helped students better understand how different roles contribute to the success of a company and the communities it serves.

The day also included lunch, trivia, and interactive activities that encouraged students to ask questions, explore new ideas, and imagine what their own futures could look like.

Exploring Careers Through Hands-On Activities

One of the highlights of the day was the “Explore Stations & Simulations” experience. Students participated in age-specific sessions designed to make learning practical and exciting.

Younger students explored topics such as artificial intelligence, construction, human resources, and concessions through activities like building a mini structure, participating in a mock interview, and learning the importance of customer service.

Older students took part in sessions focused on budgeting, program management, community design, and leadership. These activities gave them a deeper look into real-world business skills, problem-solving, planning, and the importance of collaboration.

Inspiring Big Dreams

Bring Your Kids to Work Day was about more than introducing students to careers. It was about sparking curiosity, building confidence, and helping them see what is possible.

By spending the day with Russell employees and leaders, students were able to see the people behind the work and the many paths available to them in business, construction, technology, real estate, leadership, and beyond.

Most importantly, they saw a company committed to investing in their future.

Investing in the Leaders of Tomorrow

H. J. Russell & Company’s legacy has always been shaped by vision, perseverance, and opportunity. Events like Bring Your Kids to Work Day help carry that legacy forward by giving young people access, exposure, and inspiration.

As employees welcomed their children into the workplace, the message was clear: the future is worth investing in.

The young leaders who joined us brought energy, curiosity, and big dreams into the building. We were proud to show them what is possible, what excellence looks like, and how they can one day help build the future.
