H. J. Russell & Company is investing in small and minority-owned businesses through the READI Program, a three-week curriculum designed to help firms build capacity, strengthen operations, and compete for construction opportunities.
READI, which stands for Russell’s Educational Advancement for Diversity & Inclusion, provides practical training, industry insight, and access to construction professionals who understand what it takes to grow in a competitive market. The program supports businesses with tools and guidance in areas such as bid preparation, marketing and branding, scheduling, safety, capital access, diversity certifications, project planning, and contract management.
For many small and minority-owned firms, success requires more than strong technical skills. Businesses also need clear capability statements, strong safety plans, project management processes, financial readiness, and relationships with owners and general contractors.
Through the READI Program, H. J. Russell & Company helps participants better understand the construction process, prepare for future bids, and position their companies for long-term growth.

A key part of this year’s program is the READI “Shark Tank” session, where participants pitch their businesses to general contractor preconstruction teams, operations staff, and site supervision personnel. The session gives attendees real-time feedback on how to market their services and communicate what makes their business unique.
The READI Program reflects H. J. Russell & Company’s commitment to supplier diversity, community investment, and meaningful partnership. By sharing knowledge, opening doors, and connecting businesses with industry resources, Russell is helping small and minority-owned firms grow stronger and remain competitive in today’s construction market.
Through READI, H. J. Russell & Company continues to give back to the communities it serves by helping businesses build the skills, confidence, and relationships needed to thrive.
