Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett Featured on H. J. Russell & Company’s We Build: The Podcast

Known for his commitment to community and passion for law enforcement, Reginald Scandrett, the Sheriff of Henry County, Ga., is the guest on the Aug. 26 airing of H. J. Russell & Company’s We Build: The Podcast. In this latest episode, Sheriff Scandrett, a 32-year law enforcement veteran and vice president of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, shares why he ran on the platform of “bringing the community and law enforcement together.” He talks about the importance of having cultural understanding of the communities one serves and explains some of the inherent challenges of the profession and how it impacts the person. He paints a picture of the day-in-the-life of a law enforcement officer, sharing the kinds of experiences they have that can change them psychologically, and why it’s a priority for him to test his officers twice a year for their psychological wellbeing so they can better serve the community and their families.

“Law enforcement has robbed me of a higher level of compassion, and the older I get, I’m bringing that back,” said Scandrett during the podcast. “You become numb to a lot of stuff, but it’s for survival mode quite frankly, just to make sure you’re not the next one to take your own life because of the things that you have seen.”
