Summary
The Sr. Cost Accountant is responsible for the complete cost accounting cycle and will execute all matters relating to the Corporate Entities (Construction and Program Management) as well as duties related to Joint Ventures. This employee will provide accounting support in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This position requires a self-starter who is motivated to implement best practices and create automations and efficiencies. This position reports directly to the Accounting Supervisor. This accountant’s experience should equip them with the ability to analyze financial information and perform the following duties in accordance with Principles of Accounting and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities-include the following, however, other duties may be assigned:
Prepare Financial Statements for multiple entities.
Manage and initiate projects, policies, and procedures that lead to automation and efficiencies.
Record journal entries for monthly accounting activity, job cost adjustments and accruals.
Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts.
Prepare general ledger entries for month end close.
Review the general ledger for accuracy and perform variance and flux analyses.
Cost Accounting duties include job, cost code and category set up, enter project cost estimates, and execute change orders.
Job Cost allocations.
Respond to inquiries and requests from project staff and office personnel.
Special projects aimed at analyzing and evaluating project profitability.
Record and maintain joint venture equity schedule(s).
Assist with Audit and Interim fieldwork.
Performs work in a safe manner and actively encourages team to do likewise.
Help with any projects that may be requested.
Qualifications
We are seeking an experienced job cost Senior Accountant. A professional with construction accounting is preferred. The ideal candidate has a strong analytical and accounting background. This position requires a high level of integrity combined with strong analytical and quantitative skills. Must be highly proficient in excel and have excellent interpersonal skills and written communication skills. Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree (B. S.) in Accounting from a four-year accredited college or university. Five years or more experience with Corporate and/or Construction Accounting. Strong job costing and job billing experience is a plus.
Other Qualifications
Self-starter, dependable, detailed, and deadline oriented. Good communication skills. Ability to complete tasks with minimum supervision, multi-task, and work under pressure. Team player willing to assist other accountants, internal customers, and supervisor with assigned tasks. Ability to work with Microsoft software applications of Word and Excel efficiently. Ability to use other office equipment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

This position often becomes very demanding during month-end close and the external audit. Overtime hours are often required.
