Tim Rumely Becomes H. J. Russell & Company’s Director of Talent Development

We’re excited to announce the promotion of Tim Rumely from Senior Superintendent to Director of Talent Development for H. J. Russell & Company’s construction division. Tim becomes the first director who will be focused full-time on the construction employees’ professional progression and on leadership development. In his new role, he is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of employee growth within the construction group, including creating a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary training and development program.

“It’s imperative that we invest in our people. The success of this organization depends on their ability to execute the ‘Russell Way’,” said Michael Swick, Vice President of Construction, Russell. “Creating this role is an example of that investment, and Tim is the perfect fit for the position. Tim’s experience in the field will serve him well in assessing team members across all disciplines within the division and identifying any gaps in skills needed to efficiently execute the work.”

In collaboration with human resources, Tim’s role within the construction group also includes: creating and implementing policies and procedures; recruiting; hiring new employees; coaching each employee utilizing workstyle assessments; and managing relationships with employees, trade partners, engineers, architects, and client/owners.

“My goal is to appropriately develop and train individuals to meet the anticipated talent needs related to the growth areas for Russell’s construction group while giving them an opportunity to explore various career paths,” said Tim. “The positions in the construction industry are less linear and more nuanced and three-dimensional, and we want to help people navigate their construction careers within different ranges and levels, providing maximum opportunity for professional growth and contribution.”

Tim has more than 14 years of construction experience serving in a variety of positions and industries. Before joining Russell, Tim worked as a project superintendent at Turner Construction, where he managed the erection of the structural steel and build out of the Arrivals Level for Orlando’s New Terminal C, the renovation of a building at Universal Studios, and the startup of Terminal T North renovations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Prior to that, he worked for Bechtel on projects across the United States in varying roles for the U.S. Department of Energy and Department of Defense such as project controls, field engineering, construction coordination, and construction supervision.

“We have great people with exceptional potential, and we want to harness their talent and provide career options within the Construction Group,” said Yasmine S. Antoine, Esq., Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel, Russell. “Shifting from the narrow focus of just hiring to fill one position to a broader view of the person’s overall capabilities and potential, allows us to consider the long-term trajectory of an employee’s career path with company and business goals. This adjustment to our hiring philosophy underscores our mission to execute with excellence.”

Originally from Athens, Ga., Tim graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He has a Professional Engineer license and is an Eagle Scout.
