Parkland Hospital, by the way of a $1.27B bond initiative, brought the team of CH2MHill, HDR + Corgan Architects and BARA Constructors (Balfour Beatty/Austin Commercial/H. J. Russell & Company/Azteca Construction), to design, budget and build the new 2.1M-sq. ft. Parkland Acute Care Facility. This new 200+ room facility is part of a larger campus and is presently the largest community hospital constructed in the United States.

The campus offers a safe and efficient environment for its doctors, patients and visitors to occupy and incorporates the most current innovative medical technology.

Parkland Sky Bridges As part of a joint venture with Azteca, Russell completed two sky bridges at Parkland, in particular, a 850-foot long sky walk joining the new hospital with the old. This pedestrian bridge, which crosses over a major state highway, was done four months ahead of the original schedule with over $500,000 returned in savings to the owner. The secondary sky walk stretches 120 feet and was completed on schedule. The project complements the firm’s joint venture construction work done to build the Parkland Acute Care Facility.

For the sky bridges project, there was more than 50 percent Minority/Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) participation on a subcontractor level. In addition, this was the first and only 100% MWBE-managed project for Parkland. The Parkland Sky Bridges signify Russell’s excellence in meeting clients’ needs.
